Who am I?
My name is Maxyne Limcaco, I am 18 years old and I am a full-time student at Delaware County Community College. I used to live in the Philippines and I transferred here in the United States around May 2017. I graduated from Chichester High School in 2019. I love to eat noodles, ice cream and anything sweet. My parents told me they didn’t want a dog so I got myself a pet snake who’s a very cute and cuddly baby ball python. I have an amazing, loving boyfriend, Michael Breslin, who means the whole world to me.
Who’s my favorite writer?
An author I absolutely love Stephen King. He is known for his horror, suspense, supernatural, science fiction, and fantasy novels. Many of his works have been adapted into movies, comic books, and TV series. You’ve probably heard of The Shining or IT. He’s incredibly talented and I suggest reading one of his books or watching a movie if horror or suspense is your thing.
What types of writing do I enact most often?
Being away from my family and friends and being in a different time zone is difficult so I love writing letters for them. Receiving is a great feeling too! I also used to have a journal I wrote in everyday for two years. I’m starting to get back at it again and having this digital portfolio is a great way for me to do that.
When do I write?
Writing at home in my bedroom is where I am the most comfortable. I love quiet spaces where I can focus on myself and what I’m feeling or thinking. It’s when I don’t have to worry about being judged and I even have a private Twitter account no one follows so I can just rant about my problems. I’m a little nervous to know that my work is going to be in public but I trust that the process will make me a better writer.
Where do I write?
I feel like writing on paper can reveal a person’s true feelings, if it’s hard on the paper like he/she was angry while writing or smooth and gentle like he/she was calm. I like writing on paper not only for that reason but also because I can draw images that reflect how I feel. Sometimes typing on a keyboard is nice because I don’t have to worry about illegibility. It’s a quick process and no paper gets wasted. It’s also easier to organize them in files but then again, it all depends on how I feel.
Why do I write?
I write to let my thoughts and feelings out. It’s hard to keep them all in my head and sometimes I want to look back in my life through the experiences I have recorded in writing. Sometimes writing can show me what I am truly feeling because it helps me organize the messy thoughts I have. In other words, it helps other people understand me and most importantly, it helps me understand myself.
How have my past experiences shaped my author identity and how can I reshape my author identity in this course?
As I said earlier, I am a little nervous because my work is now going to be in public for everyone to see and not just for my professor. In my past experiences, writing always felt like a transaction. My teachers back then only cared about the final product thus I only cared about my grade. In this English Composition course, the whole process is taken into consideration. I am happy to know that I have a professor who genuinely cares about the learning of his students and other people who will help me through this journey to being a better writer. I may be nervous but I am also excited to see how this course is going to help me improve my writing and shape me into being more confident about my work.
