Preface
In this page, I will be creating my Research Project for my English Composition class which I am taking at Delaware County Community College. My zeitgeist topic will be about how the anti-vaccination movement is causing harm to children and society.
There has been several misconceptions about vaccines which has caused parents to decide not to vaccinate their children. It is important for everyone to be informed about the truth and how vaccines has helped saved countless of lives throughout the world. As someone who is surrounded by family members who are in the medical field and is studying to become a nurse in the future, I naturally care a lot about people's health. Although I am not a nurse yet, I still see it as my duty to help people with their health and guide them to a better path. Many children do not have control over medical decisions yet therefore it is important for parents to know and do what is best for the health and the safety of their child.
My research question will be answering how anti-vaccination represent an American zeitgeist now and in the future. Hopefully, this project will help teens convince their parents to have them vaccinated. I have learned that using humor can sometimes help to have a more peaceful discussion as it can help diffuse tension or anger. For my Research Project, I will be using a multimedia genre to present my work. I will not only be incorporating facts and statistics but I will also be adding photographs, poems, letters and memes. Links will be provided to my sources. Personally, I think it is easier to access sources this way. The main theme of my argument is that many anti-vaxxers have misconceptions about vaccines. The return of diseases and teens sneaking out to get vaccinated best captures the American zeitgeist of the anti-vaccination movement that believes natural immunity is better as vaccinations contain toxic chemicals which can cause adverse affects. My main audience are teens who want to persuade their parents to have them vaccinated. Being a teen myself, I know what it is like when trying to read someone's research. It can be boring and tiring to read which is why I have used multimedia and memes to hopefully make this project more interesting.
In my 10th blog: Research Project: Exploring the American Zeitgeist, I explored the meaning of Zeitgeist and the topic that currently interests me the most. I chose anti-vaccination as it is causing many children to suffer. I will not be mentioning their names but I have recently met a couple whose child had unfortunately died because he came into contact with another child whose parents were opposed to vaccinating. It breaks my heart to see this happening but I also understand that these parents care just as much as other parents who vaccinate their children. I do not think these parents should be completely shunned but educated instead as they only want what is best for their children. The video I have linked in my 11th blog, Research Project: Anti-vaccination is what opened my eyes to the certain exceptions in the anti-vaccination group. But I also spoke about some of the things I disagreed with and in my research project, I aim to debunk the common misconceptions about vaccines and guide people, especially parents and teens to do the right thing.
