In this 11th blog, I will be discussing more about my topic which is anti-vaccination. I have been watching many videos about anti-vaccination and I actually came across a video called Pro-Vaccine vs Anti-Vaccine: Should Your Kids Get Vaccinated? which was made by the Youtube Channel, Jubilee.
I found the video very interesting because it truly was in the middle ground. There was no screaming and shutting the other person out. I learned quite a lot about anti-vaxxers and their views. I do agree that they should never be completely shut out or disrespected because some people are in certain situations wherein vaccines cause them more harm than good. It is important to be compassionate and understanding when it comes to some cases. I am pro-vaccine but it is also important to take into consideration that some people have experienced adverse effects. Something I will never agree on tho is being anti-vaccination and telling other people to be anti-vax as well due to one negative personal experience. It is not safe nor wise because there is still statistical evidence that shows how the benefits greatly outweigh the risk of adverse effects. It is unfortunate that these people have experienced these things but it should never be the sole reason to not vaccinate children. When there is an adverse effect, doctors investigate it. They also investigate past experiences before administering vaccines. If, for some reason, a child cannot receive any vaccination, they fall into a population that must be protected by herd immunity. Herd immunity, according to Oxford Dictionary, is defined as "the resistance to the spread of a contagious disease within a population that results if a sufficiently high proportion of individuals are immune to the disease, especially through vaccination." "Parents know their children best" I absolutely disagree with this statement because the closer you are to a patient, the more biased you become thus clouding your judgement. It is difficult to create an objective decision. My mom who works in Mercy Philadelphia Hospital talks about this a lot. This is why she works with older patients and not children because parents tend to be overprotective and disagree even when it is a already a doctor telling them what the issue is and what to do. People in the medical community are also strongly discouraged to work with their family members as a doctor because of this very reason.
